14-Mar-2020 is the death anniversary remembrance day of the German philosopher Karl Marx . This pioneer German philosopher, so radical in this thoughts, lived in exile with his family.
His philosophy, Marxism, was path-breaking in its analysis of the social system - the divided Bourgeisse (ruling class) and working class (Proletariat). According to Marxism, the social system is unevenly balanced with the Bourgeisse (smaller number) exploiting the masses (majority). The industrial revolution provided the means for capitalism to rise. People having money and power invested and created factories where more people were needed to operate the machinery to mass-produce goods. They employed the proletariat for daily wages to keep the factories running.
Problem arose when the proletariat realized that the ruling class were becoming richer and comparatively the state of life of the working class didn't improve as expected. This led to unrest in the working class and dissent against the ruling class. Thus Communism, where the working class lead the system, rose as an opposing system against Capitalism. Surprisingly, Communism also felt Religions, which was another uniting bond for the masses, could stand against Communism and feeling threatened stood against the Christianity Church as well.
Communist governments began to spread and the protests led by people were often violent. History of the spread of Communism is strewn with bloodshed, especially under leaders who later emerged as feared Dictators. Examples are numerous - Germany, USSR, China, Korea, African continent, South-east asian nations.
Currently, the only successful communist nation existing in 21st century is China and North Korea. However, they are under iron curtains, the government very secretive with absolute control over administration, communication, life of people and if anybody raises a voice of dissent they are "silenced" or "eliminated".
The big question(s) remain -
Has Communism achieved the ideal society it wanted. Working Class prosperous, Collective ownership, Welfare for all and benevolent leadership (not dictators who eliminate people - Stalin, MaO, PolPot, Kim Jung*, Idi Amin, Gaddafi, Saddam eliminated millions of lives!)?
Is Capitalism dead?
Has religions become extinct?
Despite all this and for centuries, the search of human beings for happiness, peace and a society vibrant with peace, harmony and joy where they desire to thrive is still elusive.
